Heartbreaking detail emerges from Matthew Perry’s funeral – and everyone’s saying the same thing

Actor Matthew Perry’s funeral took place at Forest Memorial Park in Los Angeles this past weekend, and friends, family, and fans bid him a final goodbye.

Perry’s fellow cast members from the legendary television series Friends, who contributed to his success, showed up to honor the man they regarded as family, as was to be expected.

In a joint statement following Perry’s untimely death, they said, “We are all so completely devastated by Matthew’s loss. We were not just coworkers on the show. We are a family.

“There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss… For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”

Perry, 54, passed away on October 28. In his Los Angeles home’s hot tub, he was discovered unconscious. Although the cause of his death is still being investigated, the Fire Department claims that he drowned. Even though no drugs were discovered at the scene, a toxicology report was still asked for.

The actor battled addictions for nearly his whole life, and despite his repeated efforts to sober up, he was unable to control himself. He reportedly spent about $7 million at rehab facilities over the course of his life.

Perry loved being a father, but he was single and didn’t have any kids.

The song that was chosen to end the ceremony did not fail to bring tears to anyone’s eyes during his touching funeral.

The farewell was made even more poignant by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s rendition of “Don’t Give Up,” a song Sir Elton John once credited with saving his life and helping him sober up.

The touching songs lyrics include: “I am a man whose dreams have all deserted, I’ve changed my face, I’ve changed my name, But no one wants you when you lose”.

The ending of the song goes: “Don’t give up, you still have us … Don’t give up, ’cause somewhere there’s a place where we belong”. According to the Daily Mail there was “not a dry eye in there.”

Fans shared their heartbreak on the social media.

I can barely get through that song without crying anyway, but now?!” one person wrote.

Another added: “For anyone who has read matthew perry’s book, his funeral reportedly ended with the peter gabriel song “don’t give up”

A third said simply: “So sad.”

Hello magazine noted: “Matthew Perry’s funeral song has a heartbreaking backstory.”
