Customer Slams McDonald’s As ‘No Longer Affordable’ After Sharing Receipt For His Regular Order

McDonald’s has come under fire on TikTok from a man who claims that eating there is now “no longer affordable” due to price increases. When Topher went to his local McDonald’s recently, he was surprised to see that his typical order—a Smoky Double Quarter Pounder BLT burger, large fries, and Sprite—had cost him more than $16.

Is food getting more expensive these days, or is it just me? Sadly, takeout options that were once reasonably priced have become quite expensive.

Due to the sharp rise in inflation over the past year, the cost of living in the United States has increased significantly, driving up the cost of food and energy.

But one thing that Americans thought they could always rely on was a cheap McDonald’s meal.

Christopher Olive, a TikToker, has surprisingly suggested that may not be the case.

The aspiring strongman showed off his latest McDonald’s purchase—a large order of fries, a Sprite, and a Smoky Double Quarter Pounder BLT burger—in a video that was uploaded last year.

It’s safe to say that this meal is more expensive than a Happy Meal when comparing what might be deemed a fair price.

But only a few years ago, you would normally expect a single meal such as this to cost no more than $10, if not less.

For this reason, Christopher was taken aback as he glanced at his receipt, only to discover that he had been billed a hefty $16.10 for his meal.

In the clip, he says: “So I get there’s a labour shortage, I get there’s wage increases and a number of other things but… sixteen dollars?

“Sixteen dollars for a burger, a large fries and a drink. It’s just crazy.”

As of right now, the video has received close to 180,000 views and thousands of comments from the internet community. It appears that people have different perspectives on the matter.

Some people complain that the $16 price tag for a hamburger meal is extremely excessive.

On the other hand, it’s crucial to keep in mind that rising costs have an impact on the entire supply chain, which is what drives up these prices.

Taking to the comments section, one person wrote: “Five Guys prices at McDonald’s?!?” To which Christopher replied: “It’s crazy.”

Another said: “It’s officially not convenient or affordable anymore, might as well go to the store and buy hamburger meat.”

“I make a lot more of my own food these days because of stuff like this,” added a third, with the TikToker replying: “Exactly. I eat 90 percent from food I cook and this really shocked me.”

But not everyone agrees, with some suggesting he opted for the most expensive item on the menu.

“Bro ordered the most expensive meal they have and acted surprised,” wrote one, while another said: “Because you got DOUBLE DELUXE BACON quarter pounder, literally the most expensive option on the entire menu.”

Then there were others who offered advice on how fans of McDonald’s could cut costs, such as this individual who clarified: “Download the app. You can literally eat McDonald’s for under $6 every time.”

A second chimed in: “Use the McDonald’s app, sometimes they have a 50% off and other offers.”
