At 78, Helen Mirren debuted a wild look in runway appearance – and everyone’s saying the same thing

Those who know Helen Mirren know that she is a Jack of all trades – having acted, written, and modeled in her decades-long career in the spotlight.

In more recent years, the 78-year-old actress’ modeling roles have only increased – and her appearance at this year’s Paris Fashion Week was no different.

Fans even took to social media to rave about how stunning she was, from the makeup she wore to her wild hair!

Mirren – who was appointed Dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 – is a highly decorated actor, having her breakthrough in 1980 when she starred in The Long Good Friday with Bob Hoskins.

Mirren then met Taylor Hackford several years later, the director of White Nights, a 1985 film she starred alongside Mikhail Baryshnikov, Gregory Hines, and Isabella Rossellini. The couple have been together since 1997.

Helen Mirren speaks about ageing

Mirren, who has been performing for almost 60 years and has frequently criticised ageist beauty standards, was unimpressed when Esquire dubbed her the “Sexiest Woman Alive.”

“I don’t like the word sexual. There are people who are sexual, and [others] who are less sexual. But there’s got to be another word. ‘Sexual’ is so limiting,” she said. “Being powerful is so much more interesting than being beautiful.”

When Mirren wore a bright pink maxi dress with silver sequins and a waist cincher in early June to the Ora! Film Festival in Italy, she pulled off a striking and intriguing appearance. She pulled her long silvery-white hair back from her face and accessorised with a pair of cosy open-toed silver flats.

“You’re not supposed to have longer hair after a certain age,” said Mirren, who spoke about her roles in Shazam! and 1923 on the British breakfast TV show, Lorraine.

She continued: “But during Covid, I started growing my hair and I hadn’t actually had long hair since I was in my 20s. And it sort of grew and grew and grew, and I couldn’t be bothered to cut it, basically. I thought, do you know what, it’s pretty cool, I think I’ll stick with it for a little while. It will come off eventually. But I’m kind of enjoying it, it’s quite radical.”

Helen Mirren walks the Paris runway

After walking the L’Oréal spring/summer 2024 runway during this month’s Paris Fashion Week, Mirren has now won the admiration of her audience.

She wore a silver sequined gown with extraordinarily long sleeves and a crazy, crimped haircut. As she went down the runway, her hair was blown out into a big pouffe, and she was radiant.

The actress’s admirers praised her appearance on social media, calling her “stunning” and “beautiful,” with many remarking on how gorgeous she still is as she ages. Others praised Mirren for being an inspiration for older women who frequently feel excluded from the fashion industry because of their age.
